SeaShare Year in Review
Happy New Year! Thank you for helping SeaShare feed more seafood to more people in 2016.
It has been a year of great accomplishments for us, and our partners and donors made it all possible. A few highlights:
- In Washington, significant new grants enabled us to access over 1.5 million servings of seafood for food banks and feeding centers throughout Washington.
- In New England, we are finalizing the production of 600,000 servings of high protein seafood for food banks on the east coast.
- In Alaska, we worked with local partners to implement seafood distribution programs for 36 remote villages around Bristol Bay, Nome, and Kotzebue. We installed a new freezer in Dillingham AK.
- In April we presented our annual report to the North Pacific Fishery Management Council. The Prohibited Species Donation Program (PSDP) is going strong, with continued support from fishermen, processors, NOAA, and the NPFMC. Fishermen and processors have retained, processed and donated nearly 140,000 pounds of salmon and halibut for food banks through this program so far this year. Another 260,000 pounds is in process.
- SeaShare received the 2016 Alaska Ocean Leadership Award for Stewardship & Sustainability.
- Our unique donation model was highlighted at the 2016 National Food Rescue Summit in Washington D.C.
With our growing network of supporters, we are doing great things together. 24 states received our seafood this year. We are thankful that generous fishermen, processors, distributors, shippers, and others who continue to make SeaShare one of the most efficient nonprofits in the country.
We wish you the very best holiday season, and a safe, prosperous new year.
