Salmon Donations for Yukon-Kuskokwim Region Relief
For the fourth year in a row, Alaska seafood harvesters, processors, and transportation companies have come to the aid of communities in the Yukon-Kuskokwim region after salmon fishing was suspended. SeaShare pitched in to coordinate the 28,000 pounds of donated fish, which is being distributed at zero cost to the receiving communities.
King salmon from Bristol Bay was donated by Alaska General, Leader Creek, NPSI Pederson Point and Red Salmon, Silver Bay Seafoods, and Trident Seafoods. Northern Air Cargo, Everts, and Alaska Air Cargo coordinated the shipments to Anchorage. Lynden Air Cargo then arranged the shipment to Emmonak, where Kwik’Pak handled distribution.
Almost a million servings of seafood have been sent to the region over the past four years. These donations wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of the fishermen and processors that donated fish, as well as the transportation and cold storage partners. Our hearts continue to go out to the Yukon-Kuskokwim communities who have lost a critical source of protein and way of life.
