SeaWeb has announced that SeaShare is a finalist for the global Seafood Champion Award for leadership. SeaShare is one of seventeen finalists in four categories who exemplify the creativity and commitment to sustainability of seafood leaders around the world.
Thanks to the generosity of North Pacific Seafoods, we were able to spread some Valentine's love this week for the people served by Helpline House, in our hometown of Bainbridge Island, Washington.
Fighting hunger is a team sport, and today the National Fisheries Institute's Future Leaders helped us sort 19,000 pounds of food at Feeding South Florida Food Bank, in Miami. We're so grateful for our partnership with NFI and the Future Leaders, who every year help SeaShare access more seafood for hunger relief across the U.S. A big thank you to Feeding South Florida, for hosting us, and for being a great partner in the fight against hunger in Florida.
A new study published in Nature this month links children's consumption of seafood with improved sleep - which may be the reason for improved cognition among children who regularly consume seafood. This is pretty exciting stuff!
E&E Foods has done workplace giving campaigns in support of SeaShare since 2010. E&E went into their 2017 campaign with the equivalent of 600,000 servings of seafood donated in all previous years combined, with all donations matched 1:1 by the company.

Continued investment necessary in federal nutrition programs to reduce hunger and poverty. More than 41 million Americans lived in households struggling with food insecurity — limited or uncertain access to enough food — in 2016, according to a new report released today by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Economic Research Service. The data reveal a small and not statistically significant decline in household food insecurity in 2016 from the previous year, with the rate dropping from 12.7 to 12.3 percent.

September is Hunger Action Month, and SeaShare is joining our partners in the fight against hunger to raise awareness about the 42 million Americans who struggle to get enough food to eat, because nothing runs on empty.
It's a freezer! And it's currently en route to tiny St. Paul Island, in the Bering Sea. We donated 900 pounds of halibut for people struggling with hunger on St. Paul earlier this year. We realized that if SeaShare is going to make more regular donations in St. Paul, where the needs are great, the community needs more freezer space. Thanks to the Terry Shaff Memorial Fund, we're sending this new three door reach-in freezer to the Aleut Community of St. Paul Island (ACSPI), with transportation from Seattle donated by Coastal Transportation. ACSPI will install the freezer in their food bank, and will use it to store future seafood donations and other frozen foods.

We had the pleasure of delivering 650 pounds of canned sockeye salmon to Helpline House, on Bainbridge Island, WA today. Helpline House is a nonprofit that offers an array of much needed services for our neighbors on Bainbridge, our hometown, including a food bank, social services, a counseling program, and a medical equipment loan program. The salmon was generously donated by North Pacific Seafoods.
We are excited to share that SeaShare's film, which we produced with Vignette Creative to accompany the launch of our website, has been selected to be shown at the Friday Harbor Film Festival!
